What does HelixEdge actually do?
We build the system that turns a search into a booked job. That means Google Ads, Meta Ads, SEO, an AI CRM that follows up on every lead, and a website built to get the call. Every piece is measured on the same number: booked jobs.
Who do you work with?
Owner-operated local service businesses, usually 1 to 20 employees. We cover a wide range of trades, from HVAC and roofing to remodeling, solar, and custom home building. See the full list on the industries page. Based in Mississippi, working nationwide.
Should I start with ads or SEO?
Ads if you need the phone ringing this month. SEO if you want your cost per lead to drop over time. Most companies end up running both, because ads produce leads now while SEO compounds and lowers what you pay per lead later.
How fast will I see leads?
Most companies get their first qualified leads within the first 2 weeks of ads going live. SEO is slower and usually takes 3 to 6 months to build real traffic, though Google Business Profile work can move map-pack rankings sooner.
What do you need from me to get started?
A short call about your service area, the jobs you actually want more of, and what your week needs to look like. After that we build it. You review everything before it goes live. Book a meeting here.
What if my industry is not on your list?
Ask. The list covers the trades we have built playbooks for, but the underlying system fits any local business that lives on inbound calls. If we are not a fit we will tell you straight instead of taking the work.
Google Ads
Does Google Ads work for local service businesses?
Yes, because search intent is the whole point. Someone typing “water heater repair near me” has a problem right now. Google Ads puts you in front of that search, and call tracking ties every lead back to the job it produced.
Why am I getting clicks but no calls?
Usually one of four things: your keywords are too broad, your landing page asks for too much, nobody answers fast enough, or your ads run when your phone does not. We diagnose them in that order because the fix gets more expensive as you go down the list.
What are negative keywords and why do they matter?
Negative keywords stop your ads from showing on searches that will never book. DIY tutorials, job seekers, suppliers, and towns you do not serve. Without a negative list you pay for all of them, and it is the single most common reason a contractor account leaks budget.
Should I run Local Services Ads or Search Ads?
Both, where Local Services Ads are available for your category. LSAs put a Google Guaranteed badge at the very top of the page. Search Ads give you control over every other term. We manage them together so they do not compete with each other.
Do I need my own Google Ads account?
Yes, and you should insist on it with any agency. We work inside your account so you own the data, the history, and the conversion tracking. If you do not have one yet, we set it up in your name.
How do you know which ads produce booked jobs?
Call tracking, form tracking, and offline conversion import. The account gets told which leads actually turned into work, so it optimizes toward booked jobs instead of cheap clicks. Without that the algorithm is guessing.
Facebook and Instagram
Do Facebook and Instagram ads work for service businesses?
Yes, for the right job. Meta is weaker than Google for an emergency and stronger for planned, big-ticket work where you are creating demand. Think roof replacements, water heaters, remodels, and generators. We run Meta and Google together so each does what it is best at.
What should I advertise on Facebook?
One clear offer at a time, aimed at the neighborhoods you actually serve. Broad brand awareness ads rarely book jobs for a local business. A specific offer with a specific audience beats a general ad every time.
Why do my Facebook leads go cold?
Because on-platform forms are easy to fill out, so people submit them casually and forget within minutes. The fix is speed. Every lead gets a text and an email back within minutes automatically, then a follow-up if they go quiet.
What is retargeting and do I need it?
Retargeting shows ads to people who already visited your site or engaged with an ad. It is usually the cheapest lead source in the account because you are talking to people who already raised a hand, and most local businesses skip it entirely.
Lead forms or send traffic to my site?
Instant forms get more leads at a lower cost but lower intent. Landing pages get fewer leads at higher intent. Which one wins depends almost entirely on how fast you follow up, because instant forms fall apart without instant follow-up.
Getting Found
How long does SEO take to work?
Google Business Profile improvements can move map-pack rankings within weeks. Service and city pages usually take 3 to 6 months to build real traffic. Ads bring calls now, SEO compounds. That is why most companies run both.
What is local SEO?
Ranking in the map pack and local results for searches in the towns you serve. It comes down to your Google Business Profile, your reviews, service-area pages, and a technically sound site. Here is what we cover.
Why is my business not showing up in the map pack?
Common causes are an incomplete or miscategorized Google Business Profile, too few recent reviews, inconsistent name, address and phone details across the web, or being physically outside the search area. It is usually fixable, and it is where we start.
Do city and service-area pages actually work?
They do when each one is genuinely about that area and that service. They fail when they are the same page with the town name swapped, because that reads as thin duplicate content. Built properly they are how you rank outside your home city.
How do I get cited by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?
Answer real questions directly and clearly, mark the page up with the right structured data, and be a source worth citing. AI engines pull from pages that answer a question in the first sentence rather than burying it under six paragraphs of setup. This is what answer engine optimization covers.
Does schema markup actually matter?
Yes, and more now than a few years ago, because it is how search engines and AI answers understand what a page is. LocalBusiness, Service, and FAQ markup are the ones that matter for a service business. One warning: never mark up your own reviews as AggregateRating on your own site. Google treats that as self-serving and it risks a manual action.
Getting Cited by AI
What is answer engine optimization?
AEO is the work of getting your business named and cited inside AI-generated answers from Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, instead of only ranking as a blue link. Here is how we run it.
Do people really pick a contractor from an AI answer?
Increasingly they use it to build the shortlist. Someone asks which company handles a problem in their area, gets three names, and calls one of them. If you are not in that answer you never enter the consideration set, no matter how well you rank on page one.
How is AEO different from SEO?
They overlap and neither replaces the other. Clean structure, accurate business facts, and trusted citations feed both. The difference is that AEO optimizes to be quoted inside one answer, while SEO optimizes to rank in a list. We run them together.
Can anyone guarantee placement in ChatGPT or AI Overviews?
No. No engine sells placement in its answers and none publish the ranking rules, so treat any guarantee as a red flag. What can be done is making your business the most citable option: structured, consistent, and clearly the best answer to the question.
What actually gets a business cited?
Answering the question directly in the first sentence, clean heading structure, FAQ and service schema, business facts that match everywhere they appear, and being mentioned by sources the models already trust. Vague pages written for nobody in particular do not get quoted.
Is it too early to invest in AEO?
That is the argument for starting now. The businesses getting cited today structured their answers before their competitors did, and the foundational work overlaps with SEO anyway, so it is not a wasted bet either way.
Never Lose a Lead
What is missed-call text-back?
When you cannot pick up, the caller automatically gets a text within seconds. It matters because a homeowner with a problem calls down the list until someone answers, and a text keeps them on your line instead of the next company.
Why does response time matter so much?
Because whoever answers first usually books the job. A lead that sits for an hour is competing with three companies that already called back. This is the cheapest fix available to most service businesses and the one most of them skip.
Do I need a CRM if I already have scheduling software?
They do different jobs. Your scheduling tool manages work after it is booked. The CRM manages leads before they are booked: the missed calls, the form fills, the follow-up. The two work together.
Will the automated texts sound like a robot?
No. The messages are written in your voice, and a real person can jump into any conversation from the inbox at any time. The automation exists to buy you time, not to replace the conversation.
What is a database reactivation campaign?
A campaign to your existing customer list and old unconverted leads. Most service businesses are sitting on years of contacts they have never marketed to again, and it is usually the fastest revenue available because these people already know you.
Your Website
Do I need a new website to run ads?
Not always. Ads can run to dedicated landing pages built on your existing site. A new site matters more for SEO, where speed, structure, and page depth decide whether you rank at all.
Can I edit the website myself?
Yes. We build in WordPress with Elementor, so text, photos, and hours are editable without a developer. Here is how we build them.
What makes a service business website convert?
One job per page and the phone number one tap away. Most service searches happen on a phone, so click-to-call on every screen, reviews and credentials above the fold, and a short form beat a long brochure site every time.
Will the site be set up for SEO from the start?
Yes. Speed, schema, clean indexing, service pages, and service-area pages are built in. Ongoing SEO is a separate service that builds on that foundation rather than fixing it later.
How We Work
Who actually does the work on my account?
Brady does. The roster is kept small on purpose so accounts get senior attention instead of being handed to a junior buyer. When you book a call you are talking to the person who will run the account.
How do you report results?
A monthly update in plain English covering cost per lead and booked jobs, not impressions and reach. If a number went the wrong way you will hear why and what is changing.
Do I own my accounts and data?
Yes. Ad accounts, analytics, and tracking are set up in your name. If we ever part ways you keep the account, the history, and the data. Any agency that will not do this is worth asking why.
What makes you different from a bigger agency?
Scale cuts both ways. A large agency has more people but your account is one of hundreds. We take fewer clients and each one gets built by hand around the trade, the season, and the ticket. That is the tradeoff, and it is not right for everyone.
